I am inspired by simple things in the world around me; I love to come across something and think ‘wow I’ve never thought of that before’. Transformation was the theme of a project that invited me to work with my interest in recycling old, unwanted objects to create something of higher value. I combined this project with my interest in world of fashion and my aspirations to create wearable items, and thought a perfect direction for this project would be to create a piece of jewellery out of something that is considered disposable, rubbish or trash; I chose to work with bottle tops. I feel that recycling, as a design theme, is going to become even more popular and necessary with our ever-growing ‘green consciousness ’.
Although working in 3D I thoroughly enjoy sketching and find, that when embarking on a project, I feel it is very worthwhile to take some time to do some observational drawings to get the ‘cogs turning’. I like to draw in soft pencils and graphite, enabling me to really capture shadow and surface textures.
I am confident that my UCAS application is the next positive step for me; I was ecstatic to have been able to do the foundation course at Manchester Met University and feel that working in a University environment has given me the ability to be self directed, and I can, without a doubt see the way in which I work has changed and benefited from this. It has also prepared me for degree level study. I want to keep improving; broaden my knowledge and skills in design and feel that this course will enable me to do so.
I am confident, driven and enthusiastic about what I do, and I am more than excited to continue working in the field of design.
